Herbal Medicine

What is it?

Herbal medicine is the oldest established system of healing in the world. It works in harmony with the body, supporting its own healing capacity in order to restore good health.

Modern herbal medicine combines the traditional use of herbs with scientific research, adapting its approach to the 21st Century. The remedies employed are prepared from whole plants as nature intended. And therefore are unlikely to cause unwanted side effects.

Our Medical Herbalist Roisin McLaughlin is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists.

How can it help me?

Herbalists today look at the whole person and not just the symptoms. In order to establish the origin of dis-'ease' practitioners take a detailed case history and utilise orthodox diagnostic techniques and analytic procedures. A treatment plan will then be devised which includes lifestyle and dietary advice, in addition to a tailor made medicine.

Herbal healing provides a natural and safe approach to health. Herbalists can help with almost all physical and emotional complaints including:
Skin problems, allergies, asthma, hay fever, digestive disorders, cystitis, heart problems, depression, anxiety, arthritis and stress.

Herbal medicine promotes wellbeing and is thus beneficial across the spectrum of mild, chronic and acute ailments.

Common complaints seen by a herbalist:

These include: Skin problems (eczema, psoriasis, acne), digestive disorders (peptic ulcers, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion), heart problems (angina, hypertension), menstrual, menopausal and gynecological conditions. Respiratory problems including asthma, bronchitis and hayfever. Anxiety , depression and insomnia. Urinary problems such as cystitis. Arthritis, muscular aches and pains.
