Phobias

What is a phobia?

A phobia is an irrational fear of something. A certain amount of fear is healthy to keep us alive, but when that fear becomes severe enough that our behaviour becomes irrational and it affects other aspect of our lives, that’s when it’s time to get help.

Why do we have phobias?

Phobias can usually be traced back to one experience, normally an emotionally charged event. This stays with you and every time you are confronted with the trigger, for example, a spider, the emotional response is triggered. This normally gets worse over time resulting in feelings of panic, anxiety and fear. Sometimes the triggering event is not obvious so this has to be explored with the therapist.

Most people are aware of their triggering event, but no matter how much they try to control it, they cannot. This is because phobias happen below the concious level.

How can hypnotherapy / NLP help?

Hypnotherapy / NLP is very effective for phobias, this is because they talk directly to the unconcious mind. This involves disconnecting the emotional response, when this is disconnected the phobia is gone. Your life no longer needs to be controlled by your fear with hypnotherapy / NLP phobias are easy to treat and in just a few short sessions you could get rid of that fear forever.
